　 Hokkaido Heritages and Regional Development

  A city, several towns and one village in Rumoi work to maximize the Hokkaido Heritage-designated assets they have so as to stimulate more lively communities.Among such efforts is the tour of Hokkaido Heritage assets. This new type of tourism attracts many people, so that they are able to learn and gain the knowledge of the properties’ values.
  In order to enhance the value in the assets, the local communities voluntarily stand up and disseminate their own heritages: for example, tour guides work in the Old Hanadas’ Fishermen’s Palace (in Obira Town) and Mashike Town, guiding and explaining the facilities to the visitors.


　　北海道遺産と地域づくり

　留萌振興局管内では、北海道遺産を活用した地域づくりが各地で行われています。その一つとして、北海道遺産を巡る観光ツアーが企画され、多くの人が留萌管内を訪れており、北海道遺産の価値を「学び」、「知る」新たな観光として定着しています。
　また、その価値をさらに高めるために、旧花田家番屋(小平町)や増毛町では観光ガイドが誕生し、施設等の案内・説明を行うなど地域自らが発信する取り組みも行われています。

●　Wind Power Generation -風力発電-　●

 With a strong north-west seasonal wind  in winter, the Rumoi area is highly valued by NEDO’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization as one of the Japan’s best places for wind power generation.
  Local governments, third sectors and private firms were involved in constructing large-scale wind power facilities. Today, there are 64 windmills in operation in Rumoi, accounting for 26% of the total power generation by wind in Hokkaido.

　留萌地域は、冬期間に北西の季節風が強く、ＮＥＤＯ技術開発機構(新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構)の調査においても日本有数の風力発電施設設置の適地であるとされています。
　地方自治体をはじめ第３セクターや民間企業による大型の風力発電施設の建設が行われ、平成２３年３月末現在稼働している風力発電施設は、風車台数で６４台となっており、総出力にして全道の２６％の割合を占めています。
